Challenging Weaves: Moorish Rose

When I first started my chainmail business I was excited to try out as many new chainmail weaves as I could. I learned from online tutorials, through watching videos, and sometimes simply just by looking at pictures of finished weaves. It was easy for me to see how most weaves were variations on similar themes. And once I had figured out a couple dozen basic weaves I thought I could do any weave. And then I attempted Moorish Rose and hit a wall.

Seen above in all silver anodized aluminum rings, Moorish Rose is a beautiful weave of interlocking spirals of mobius units. I desperately wanted to add it to my list of known weaves, but in my early days of learning chainmail, it was just too advanced for me. I mangled many rings and spent too long fighting to figure out the confusing spirals.

Years later I decided it was time to attempt Moorish Rose again. Even though I had found it frustrating, I still thought it was pretty and wanted to learn it. And this time I got it! What made the difference was tons more experience with chainmail and a wonderful video tutorial by another chainmail artist named Lisa Ellis. I learned how each mobius unit connected to the previous ones and step by step it all came together.

I was so happy to have finally conquered this challenging weave. And now I'm happy to have it available online. Customization options are set up, allowing you to pick out your own custom color combos, and there are rainbow options as well. Check them all out here.
